New York City composer, arranger, and scholar Wayne Alpern is a highly honored among educators and music societies. In addition to his extensive schooling in music, he is also a lawyer and educator at such diverse institutions as Mannes College of Music, Hunter College, Brooklyn College, and Cardoza Law School.

This new recording continues to celebrate his skills at composing and arranging, making well known popular songs into modern jazz standards incorporating classical compositional techniques.

The various tracks are performed by various combinations of artists, and include John Challoner – trumpet, Owen Broder – alto saxophone, clarinet, Adam Larson – tenor saxophone, Nick Grinder – trombone, Dave Baron – bass, Nathan Ellman-Bell – drums, Benjamin Sutin – violin, Matt Podd – piano, D’Layna and Jeff Burnige – vocals.

The tracks, all in arrangements by Wayne Alpern, are Thriller, Ode to Billie Joe, Dear Landlord, Don’t Stop Believin’, Teenage Dream, She’s Not There, Who Loves You Pretty Baby, Somebody I Used To Know, As I Went Out One Morning, and My Girl

Wayne’s fine arrangements deviate from the norm of conventional musical categories – making them magically unique.
