Marshall Gilkes –  Always Forward

O’s Notes: Always Forward is trombonist Marshall Gilkes’ second encounter with the WDR Big Band. He serves as composer, arranger and conductor as well. The large ensemble is flourished with reeds including Karelian Strassmayer (sax, cl, fl) and Andy Haderer (t, flugelhorn). The program has ten selections highlighted by the three-part “Denali Suite”. We enjoyed Gilkes warm tones especially on “Puddle Jumping” and the racy “Switchback” featuring Strassmayer, Paul Heller (t-sax) and drummer Hans Dekker. Marshall again strikes a winning groove with the WDE Big Band.

Since 1988 Kari-On Productions has helped artists get an even footing in the industry through jazz promotion in the genres of Jazz, World & Latin Jazz through Jazz Radio and Publicity. Why do we do both, because they compliment each other, and we care about fiscal longevity for the artist.
