“Chythm Ranges,” is a whirlwind of a piece, based on”I Got Rhythm,” its intricacy call for (and receiving) a high degree of instrumental facility and improvisational chutzpah. “King of Hearts,” by Roberts uses “My Heart Belongs to Daddy” as its harmonic trigger and its in lilting waltz mode, its composer displaying his full Brecker-esque command as it unfolds. The final track, is derived from “My Shining Hour” as an all-out swinger, complex yet straight-ahead, composer Jago stretching out. And so it goes, each piece pleasingly varied, the playing of all four participants the epitome of muscular hard-bop, Aussie style. “
