Jack Brandfield: I’ll Never Be The Same

Relaxed and casual swing is served up in a classy fashion by tenor saxist Jack Brandfield, teamed up with guitarist Randy Napoleon and bassist Rodney Whitaker on a mix of classy standards and Brazilia. Brandfield’s tone is big enough to mistake it for a baritone, swinging with gusto on “Nobody Else But Me” and the extroverted “Lover Come Back To Me”. His breathy tone is reminiscent of vintage Ben Webster on “Andorinha” and an oozy “Ballad Medley”, while bouncing on “Wildwood.” Freddie Cole alumnus Napoleon gives tasty support on “I’ll Never Be The Same” and delivers rich framework on a duet take of “Over The Rainbow” with Whitaker going pas de deux on a sleek “Do Nothing Till You Hear From Me”. A Timeless treasure chest.
