Ronny Whyte is a revered fixture of the New York jazz and Cabaret scene, but his achievements go beyond the confines of Manhattan.  His career spans decades. For two years Ronny appeared Off-Broadway in the hit musical Our Sinatra as well as its two national big band tours which played more than 90 cities. He was featured twice at New York’s JVC Jazz Festival, and there was inducted into the Cabaret Jazz Hall of Fame. Whyte has recorded eleven CDs and his latest effort Whyte Witchcraft is a timeless collection of Cy Coleman classics, featuring the Cecilia Coleman Big Band with special guest Eddie Monteiro.

Positives

Whyte has an elegance and panache to his delivery that is pure classic, its brims with sophistication and rings with charm.

Album Rating

Bottom Line

Whyte’s latest release is a collaboration with the Cecilia Coleman Big Band. Its an exciting and nostalgic listen that swings with an effervescence and distinct vintage charm that is timeless. The Big Band features special guest Eddie Monteiro. The treat in the mix is also the trio cuts which feature Whyte on piano on nuggets like “You Facinate Me So,” and “Don’t Ask A Lady,” and a wonderfully delightful version of “Here I Go Again.” Whyte has a capably buoyant voice that glides across the melody with charisma. His sparkling renditions whether accompanied in a trio or big band setting are enduring cuts to be savored. A winning listen throughout. That’s the short of it!
