George Wein reflects on DIVA Jazz Orchestra’s 2018 Newport performance on Notes From the Wein Machine

“Last year was the 25th anniversary of the Diva Jazz Orchestra. They were in Newport in 2018, but I only had a chance to hear one or two numbers.  They blew me away, listening to a full set at Dizzy’s.  Each section – trumpets, trombones, saxophones – had something unique to say.  The arrangements were difficult and explosive.  The expression: ”They play good for….  “ no longer exists.  Their gender meant nothing.  They just played great music and it was a pleasure to hear them.  Sherrie Maricle has done an amazing job of holding this group together for such a length of time and from what I heard that night, they will exist for some time into the future. ” – George Wein

Since 1988 Kari-On Productions has helped artists get an even footing in the industry through jazz promotion in the genres of Jazz, World & Latin Jazz through Jazz Radio and Publicity. Why do we do both, because they compliment each other, and we care about fiscal longevity for the artist.
