Five Play: Live From The Firehouse

Five ladies from the renowned DIVA Jazz Orchestra take a night off to go quintet for a swinging date led by drummer, composer and arranger Sherrie Maricle. She teams up with fellow composers/arrangers Norika Ueda/b, Tomoko Ohno/p, Janelle Reichman/ts-cl and manager Jami Dauber/tp-fh and the team bops with delight on pieces like “T-Bone Special” and the crisp “The Time Being.” Reichman’s clarinet is warm and fluid on a coy and bluesy take of Duke Ellington’s “Just Squeeze Me” and drop dead gorgeous for her romantic excursion of “Unexpected” and the celestial “Circles.” Dauber’s horn serenades on the nostalgic “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love” and is warm for “Uneven Pieces.”
