Ray Soul

Speaking of grief, melodically

Ray Soul

Bassist/composer/arranger Ray Soul offers a single song here that is excerpted from his important release SEU APRENDIZ – a collection of short writings, photographs, and music that reflects the composer, Ray Soul’s mind, and his psychological and cognitive reactions after witnessing his mother’s suicide and ultimately developing a rational explanation for her decision. In bringing universality to this project, Korean born Ray used ‘non-native languages (such as Portuguese) to describe things we do not want to remember in or mother tongues that can sometimes create a scenery too vividly and is immensely painful.’

The ensemble is Composer/Arranger – Ray Soul, Lyrics – Jair Oliveira, Piano – Art Hirahara, String arrangement – Matthew Nicholl, Cello – Naseem Alatrash, Violin – Bengisu Gokce, and vocal – Ebinho Cardoso.

Sensitive and genuine, this is a little work with a big impact
