Jonathan Karrant & Joshua White: Shadows Fall

Ebullient duos by the warm light baritone Jonathan Karrant and pianist Joshua White are delivered on this collection of intimate standards. Karrant is lyrical and earnest in his deliveries throughout, putting through and feeling behind “Simply The Best” and in wonderment on “So In Love”. White mixes up his deliveries, giving a dainty sprinkled intro to “Lush Life” while travelling to Tin Pan Alley on a hip “Wrap Your Troubles In Dreams” and giving some hip blues for Karrant on “Stop This World”. The two parlay together well, casually swinging on “I Thought About You” and luminous on “My Romance”. There’s nowhere to hide on these kind of albums, and these gents stand up well under the lights.
