Christmas in 3D (DIVA Jazz – 3DCDXMAS) is a delightful collection of holiday music by the 3D JAZZ TRIO, drummer Sherrie Maricle, pianist Jackie Warren and bassist Amy Shook. They explore ten selections playing in a wide variety of styles from straight-out swing, “Winter Wonderland” and “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” to calypso, “Up on the Housetop.”, with many stops along the way. Perhaps the most unusual choice is their version of the one song that was new to me, “Please Daddy (Don’t Get Drunk This Christmas)” that is played in a country style with Shook forsaking her bass for a fiddle. Warren’s salsa take on “O Christmas Tree”” is nicely complemented by the Brazilian feel of “I Wonder As I Wander.” All in all Christmas in 3D is interesting and entertaining throughout.
